XJ Shi*ty Shift linkage
September 19, 2021 By Nick Viggo
I’m fairly sure that if you have an XJ that at some point you have had issues with the shift linkage. I sure know I have. flexy unibodies, wore out components and well some hard wheeling can pop the linkage right out, very annoying to shift from underneath wile out on the trail. tried one of the cheap linkages you can find on amazon. it’s about $50
When I received the part I was a bit disappointed. All the hardware was cheap Chinese cast metal. The rod ends are about the same level of quality. The laser cut parts are really quite nice. They are stainless steel and the laser work is quite good. The biggest problem is I could not for the life of me get it to work.
After some cutting and shaping I was finally able to get it to work. I still need to do some work in it because it wont quite lay the shifter handle flat in 2H.
I’m thinking about redesigning it so that it will actually work correctly. Has any one else tried one of these? how did you get it to work? Do we want one that is much better all around?
The install (after my modifications) wasn’t to bad. Looks and works pretty decent now. I think with a little work it could be a great up grade.
I you would like to know more or would be interested in one of these that actually works. Please feel free to reach out .
