Install Steering Brace

November 27, 2022 By Nick Viggo

Today we install the steering brace. We know the XJ has a uni-rail system that just falls apart just as soon at you install a lift and start putting bigger tires on it. In the coming weeks NV-OFFROAD.Com will be opening a online store to purchase the parts you see here. In this installment I will present two parts the steering brace that will keep your gear box from leaving it’s proper home. The second is a steel gear box spacer. Factory spacer is made of aluminum that misshapes over time causing everything to come loose. These two parts will fix your gear box issues!

Steering brace available soon at NV-offroad

Steel steering gear box spacer

The steering brace is made of laser cut 1/4″ plate. It ties into both uni-rails with 3 bolts on either side. The two bolts you see on top are part of half the clamp the other half will wrap around the steering gearbox and lock the whole assembly to the uni-rails.

On the under side there is a bearing that we installed that supports the sector shaft. This puts the gear box sector shaft in double shear!

Looking up at the completed installation.

After torquing everything down and and move the steering to be sure there’s no binds. We can call this completed.

Next we will reinstall the front axle and front four link.
